Job summary

Radiology Support Workers play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care by undertaking a broad range of clinical and non-clinical duties, in support of and under the direct supervision of a registered healthcare professional within radiology.They are responsible for planning and organising their own workload in collaboration with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team. This includes providing chaperone support and assistance to clinicians and practitioners during radiology examinations, as well as delivering safe peri-procedural care and supporting effective delivery of Radiology services.Radiology Support Workers are also expected to contribute towards the training and supervision of more junior staff and students, who are learning skills required of the role.

Working hours will be in-line with Radiology service requirements. Post holders will be required to work across all Trust sites including community diagnostic centres.

Main duties of the job

Assist the Registered Healthcare Professional with a wide range of procedures in-line with service requirements and being familiar with the principles of the appropriate radiology imaging techniques.

Welcoming the patient, instructing them in the preparation and nature of their examination and responding to their personal needs.

Assist in all aspects of patient care, which will include moving patients, escorting patients and relatives, assisting patients on and off the imaging table.

Chaperoning of patients during examinations, assisting patients to dress/undress and supporting with personal hygiene.

Maintaining sufficient stock levels in the clinical areas and ensuring stock deliveries are recorded and put away.

Prepare and set up for imaging/ interventional examinations where appropriate, to assist the registered health care professional.

Following the completion of appropriate training and assessment and under the direction of a registered health care professional, undertake clinical activities such as, IV cannulation, ECG recording, blood glucose monitoring, and eGFR measurements for renally impaired patients attending for IV contrast examinations.

Administrative duties including, patient safety questionnaires and processing of patient details on Radiology administration systems.

Flexibility to work long days which will include evenings and weekends.

The ability to travel between community sites in the Blackpool and Fylde area is essential as part of this role.
