Job summary
The Haematology department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital is seeking an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to work within our friendly, hard-working team. Applicants with a relevant accredited degree may also be considered in a trainee role. This is a development role, with progression to the role of Specialist BMS (band 6) possible upon being signed off as competent to participate in the out-of-hour shift rota.
If employed as a trainee BMS, you will paid at band 5 annex 21, equating to 75% of the top of the band 5 pay scale
As an HCPC registered band 5 BMS, you will be paid at the full band 5 entry grade rate, with progression to a specialist BMS band 6 post following suitable training and competency assessment to allow participation in the out of hours shift rota.
Reporting to the laboratory senior team, the successful candidate will be working between the Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Immunology laboratories. You will be required to ensure high-quality and timely analysis of patient blood samples, to aid in diagnosis and disease monitoring. The hours of work will initially be 9-5:15 Monday-Friday while training as a band5/trainee BMS, with the longer-term requirement of participating in the 24/7 out-of-hours shift rota as a specialist band 6 BMS.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in the context of the Objectives of the Pathology Directorate and the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The principal duty of the post holder will be to analyse, process and validate specialist investigations in Haematology, blood transfusion and immunology. Additional duties will be undertaken as directed by the Haematology Manager in consultation with the post holder.
