Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist - Oculoplastic

Job summary

The successful candidate will join a multi-professional team based on the Victoria Hospital site and will also give clinical opinions when requested by consultant colleagues.

The clinical commitments of this post will include responsibility for inpatient and outpatient care at Blackpool Victoria Hospital (BVH). There is also a commitment to give opinions on both oculoplastic and general ophthalmic problems in peripheral hospitals:

The outpatient work will be conducted at BVH in a dedicated ophthalmic suite in the main outpatient department and within the Ophthalmic Surgical Unit and Medical Retina Unit.

The post holder will be employed by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is a permanent post within the structure.

Our Ophthalmology service has a team of 8 consultants (including vacancies), 6 specialty doctors and 4 speciality trainees. This role will require the delivery of face-to-face onsite clinical sessions or within a community-based environment. The provision of assessment and management of a range of Ophthalmology conditions. Educate patients and their families on conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care. Stay current withadvancements in Ophthalmology treatments, technologies, and best practices.

  • Full registration with the GMC
  • FRCOPHTH & CCT or Equivalent in Ophthalmology.

  • Evidence of appropriate clinical experience suitable for the post. Ability to work as an independent practitioner
  • Surgical experience- especially in Cataract and Oculoplastic surgery
