The post holder will have the responsibility to support the day-to-day operational management of the estate mechanical service covering acute hospital sites and will therefore be a skilled professional with significant experience in the leadership of estate mechanical services within an organisation of comparable size and complexity. The frequently fast-changing, dynamic acute working environment, requires the post holder to demonstrate the ability to respond and adapt flexibly to the needs of the service. Therefore, they must have a high level, of practical and theoretical knowledge of estate mechanical services, and the associated compliance legislation and be comfortable dealing with a wide range of stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

Utilising audits and condition surveys and other related documentation, liaise with the estates manager/s and appropriate client representatives, to develop and implement a robust Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme; with regards to both maintaining and improving the safety and effectiveness of the mechanical infrastructure across all relevant acute sites. Support the development and implementation of the ongoing long term Atlas Estates Strategy and the associated delivery plan, ensuring that any related mechanical management resources and requirements are correctly planned and prioritised. Investigate and promote new working practices within the team to provide more efficient, cost-effective and customer-responsive service; and provide technical and professional expertise and advice, as necessary, to support the reconfiguration and integration of any appropriate related services. Ensuring that the provision of any such services are both technically sound and relevant to the clients' needs.

  • Experience of working within a complex and challenging environment, managing relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Good level of competence and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite of programmes, in particular Excel, word, SharePoint and Outlook.

Desirable

  • Experience of Business planning
  • The ability to interpret and understand highly complex statistics and sensitive or contentious information.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to HNC / ONC level in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualification/experience in a Mechanical Engineering related discipline or have an equivalent level of experience of specialist Mechanical Engineering related discipline, working at a high level
  • Acting as an Authorised Person in one or more of the required HTM's relevant to this role
  • Evidence of post-qualifying and continuing professional development.
  • Completed a recognised Mechanical Trade Apprenticeship with continued learning.

Desirable

  • Qualification in Management / leadership.
  • (BOAS) Boilerhouse Operational Accreditation Scheme training.

Knowledge & Experience: Specialist

  • Detailed Knowledge and experience of and proficient in the use of estates computer management systems, for example Building Management software / database Systems (BMS) and Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM)
  • Experience of managing a large multi-disciplinary Mechanical states service within an environment of comparable scale and complexity.
  • Detailed knowledge and awareness of legislation relating to Mechanical Estates management

  • An excellent understanding of national guidance on NHS Estates Management processes.
  • Achievement in successful change management and managing successful Projects.
  • Knowledge of service planning and an understanding of its relevance and impact on the services provided by the Estates Directorate.
