Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an expanding team of clinicians covering the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Short Stay Unit (SSU) and Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We are advertising for an ST3+ post with coverage across the three areas on a rotational basis (as per rota).

The Department Our Acute Medical Unit consists of 36 beds receiving patients from the Emergency Department and community. This service runs 24 hours a day with an on-call team working alongside the dedicated Acute Medicine team. The Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit runs from 08:00 - 00:00, 7 days a week. The team also manage the Short Stay Unit which focuses on discharging patients within 72 hours of admission. This is co-located to AMU.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will rotate between the services (AMU / SSU / SDEC) where there is a strong focus on teamwork. The post holder will receive a Consultant supervisor and will deliver a wide range of medical input in managing medical patients in the acute setting.

About us

  • Co-ordinate the day to day care of patients on the unit / wards ensuring that all patients receive a daily review
  • Be involved in complex clinical patient management problems and multi-disciplinary planning and treatment.
  • Participate in regular MDT "board rounds" to review patient pathways and progress towards discharges.
  • The post holders duties will be allocated by the Consultant Medical staff within the team.
  • The post holder will be required to maintain their knowledge and skills.
  • To work with the nursing teams to deliver high standards of care.
  • To participate in training of junior medical staff and students (Liverpool University).
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in an appraisal with their respective Consultant.
  • In conjunction with the Consultant, attend clinics when required.
  • The post holder will share with colleagues and other intermediate level staff in dictation of documentation in respect of patients, where appropriate, in addition to general administrative duties within the department.
  • Participate in a rotational rota with a variety of hours covering 7 days a week to meet the needs of the service.
  • To maintain a good working relationship with existing staff members in the hospital.
  • To perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant in conjunction, where practicable, with their colleagues both senior and junior
