Job summary

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals are looking for highly motivated, committed, enthusiastic and reliable Band 5 Staff Nurses, or ODP's to join our friendly Critical Care team within the Division of Surgery, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Theatres (SACCT).

This job role is to cover maternity leave and is a 12 month contract, we would consider secondments from other areas also. This is an exciting opportunity to get experience of working in a brand new Critical Care unit, this will offer the successful candidates a significant specialist training package and an opportunity to see if Critical Care is a place for you to progress within your career. There will be an opportunity to also complete your national step 1 competencies for critical care.

We moved in to our purpose built 16 bedded unit which has 16 side rooms, this unit has all the modern features and is a light and spacious area to work within. We have a large friendly Multidisciplinary team, who work closely together and very supportive to each other.

Main duties of the job

One year's post registration experience is desirable. However, if you have just qualified and have had a significant placement in the Intensive Care or Cardiac Intensive Care then we want to hear from you.

We require enthusiastic individuals with a can do attitude. You must be passionate about delivering the highest quality of individualised care for our patients, with a commitment and drive to get things right first time every time.

A dedicated PD team deliver training during a 6-9 week supernumerary period this ensures newly appointed staff are trained in all aspects of Critical Care from fluid management, Respiratory and Cardiovascular support, to Renal Management including the use of Hemofiltration.

We expect and encourage all staff to complete their National Competency Framework Critical Care Competencies, and the PD team will help you with step 1 during your supernumerary period.

We treat a wide variety of patients from many different specialities including complex post-operative surgical patients, out of hospital cardiac arrests, patients with medical conditions and patients from the haematology unit with neutropenic sepsis.

The Critical Care team is a cohesive MDT including the Medical team, Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCP's), Nursing staff, Dedicated Physiotherapists who are renowned for their work in ICU rehab, and in adopting Ultrasound Lung Imaging. There is also a dedicated Dietician, Pharmacist, Occupational therapist and a newly developed post of AHP support worker who will support the staff with early rehabilitation. A team of Psychologists helps provide support to both patients and staff alike.
