Job summary

The Blackpool Quality Improvement team have been on an epic journey since they launched in 2020. After securing a brand new QI Hub in Trust HQ and working with Executive sponsors and wonderful staff, patients and families, the team have supported delivery of:

  • Successful Breakthrough Series Collaboratives that have delivered a sustained reduction in cardiac arrests, pressure ulcers and improved sepsis pathways to name a few.
  • Working with a number of high profile global leaders, launched the Blackpool Clinical Quality Academy, a medically led team based yearlong training and practice in QI. This programme has created over 100 staff who are delivering improvements that support delivery of our Trust Strategy. The academy is about to launch a third cohort in partnership with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • An impressive education programme that has over 1,600 attendances including QSIR Foundation and Practitioner (NHS England programme). We also design and deliver our own innovative training programmes such as our virtual "measurement jam" and "everyday improvement", to ensure we reach as many of our busy staff as possible.

We are now at a critical point as we commence delivery of our new enabling plans, to support our people to achieve the aims described in our Trust strategy. We are also committed to the new NHS IMPACT approach, so we can respond to today's challenges, deliver better care for patients and give better outcomes for communities.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an exceptional QI leader, who is able to lead, design and deliver our programmes to the highest standard. This is an extremely fast paced and changing environment, so we are looking for someone who can work flexibly, drive improvement and help our people to thrive. You will be an excellent communicator, programme manager, facilitator, coach, teacher and have a deep knowledge of improvement science. You need to be able and willing to apply yourself to all aspects of delivering improvement and a good knowledge of data for improvement is essential. If you are passionate about improving flow and the "green" agenda, even better.

About us

In return we offer a team approach to delivery, with hands on project and leadership support. You will get the opportunity to work for an outward facing team who are keen to hear about your development ideas - we want you to learn from the best. We celebrate success and have been successful in achieving and being shortlisted for many awards over the last couple of years. All staff in the team have had significant development opportunities from learning the latest in QI, attending conferences, studying with a university and learning from each other at our weekly "all teach, all learn" team meetings. In your job we want you to be innovative, creative and most importantly, we want you to enjoy your work and have fun.

The job is mostly based on site, either at the hospital or in the community. You must be able to drive and be a car owner as it is likely you will be spending time at different sites across the Fylde Coast and on occasion elsewhere in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
