Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Trust Grade Doctor ST1/2 to our existing busy surgical department on a 12-months Fixed Term contract.
We have a large throughput of elective and emergency cases; approximately 10-15 cases are admitted as emergencies, but twice the number may be seen in the newly commissioned surgical admissions unit. Out Patient and operating sessions are held not only at Blackpool Victoria Hospital but also in peripheral hospitals at Fleetwood and Lytham. Every firm has a scheduled day case list giving ample exposure to basic surgical techniques; further there are 3 elective sessions every week offering the opportunity to take part in major operative procedures.
There is 1 Urology Ward and 4 General Surgery Wards.
All emergency patients are admitted directly to the admissions unit.
Surgical Trainees work a system of full shifts which reflects the work intensity of the department. (The department also employs Nurse Practitioners to support Junior Medical Staff and alleviate inappropriate duties).
