Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Integrated Medicine and Patient Flow (IMPF) Division as we look to recruit two Non-Medical Consultants (8b - 8d, dependent on experience) to our expanding Acute Stroke Service at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust. We have successfully bid for Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) status and are now beginning to build our team to achieve that goal.

As a Non-Medical Consultant you will work clinically as part of the medical consultant rotation within the HASU service. You will be a registered nurse or Allied Healthcare Professional with substantial stroke experience.

You will be instrumental in developing our HASU and our stroke pathways in line with the regional integrated care service (ICS).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Have a highly visible clinical profile, providing both advisory and clinical input into patient care, spending a minimum of 50% of time in clinical practice. The post holder will have clinical responsible for a patient group within Acute Stroke services.
  • Autonomously act and develop recognition for their expertise in the field of Acute Stroke management having developed specialist clinical knowledge.
  • Ensure patient / client centred care and family and carer collaboration and where appropriate promote maintenance of health, wellbeing and independence.
  • Apply advanced theoretical, evidence based and practical knowledge to the clinical care of patients presenting to the Acute Stroke service when delivering and shaping services.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimise clearly defined patient outcomes.
  • Manage a defined caseload that will focus on Stroke patient presentations: Receive referrals, assess, order, interpret and act upon investigative tests, consider differential diagnosis, evaluate, treat, plan, refer and discharge patients within the Trust.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and exercise judgement in making challenging patient centred decisions within current best practice guidance, relevant legal frameworks and with clear understanding of the relevant professional and applied ethical frameworks.
