Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Consultant Haematologist and Head of Department to compliment our existing team of Consultants supported by specialist registrars from the regional rotation, specialty doctors, advanced nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists as we continue to recruit additional staff to fully realise the vision of the Lancashire Haematology Centre. . The service works across Blackpool and Preston and provides a tertiary service to Lancashire and South Cumbria. Intensive treatment of acute leukaemia and autologous stem cell transplantation is undertaken in Blackpool in our JACIE accredited unit for a wider population of 1.6 million people.

Main duties of the job

The HOD will work closely with their Clinical Matron and Directorate Manager to ensure delivery of high quality and safe patient care, clinical effectiveness and maintain the activity and performance levels required by the Trust through the Division.

Involvement in research is vitally important to us and fully supported by great facilities at both sites which are very much appreciated by our patients. We are high recruiters to many national trials. Teaching is also our passion and involvement in teaching our specialist registrars and junior doctors as well as medical students via our growing links with the new UCLAN Medical School is very much encouraged. Sub-specialisation is also encouraged and flexible depending on appointee area of interest.

All weekends on call and 4 out of 5 weekday nights each week are covered by specialist registrars or specialty doctors.

The successful applicants can expect:

  • 10 PA contract with 2 further PAs available and 2 PA's allocated for the HoD role.
  • A flexible job plan and base location.

  • Primary medical qualification
  • Full and Specialist registration with the General Medical Council and hold license to practise, or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
