Applications are invited for the full time position of Locum Consultant in Cardiology and Electrophysiology at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are able to offer a fixed term, full time (10 PA) post for a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with expertise and experience in cardiac electrophysiology.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the cardiology service, helping the 4 existing electrophysiologists provide a comprehensive EP service to the patients of Lancashire and South Cumbria.
The post holder will be expected to work in close collaboration with other Consultant Cardiologists involved in delivering cardiology services, and to contribute to the further development and expansion of the service as a whole.
Experience of all EP procedures, leadership skills and a commitment to new developments are essential.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will help provide and develop arrhythmia care to the regional population of Lancashire and South Cumbria. The EP department has expanded rapidly over the past few years and is one of the fastest growing EP services in the UK. There are currently 4 consultant electrophysiologists and 3 arrhythmia nurses in the department.
Approximately 800 ablation procedures are performed annually. The department has 2 catheter labs that are equipped to deliver EP procedures, 3D mapping, laser and cryo balloon ablation are all performed. The post holder will have experience in all aspects of invasive EP procedures including AF and VT ablation.
About us
The Trust serves a population of approximately 440,000 residents across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. It comprises Blackpool Victoria Hospital which is a large busy acute hospital and two smaller community hospitals - Clifton Hospital and Fleetwood Hospitalandthe National Artificial Eye Service. The Trust is also responsible for the provision of Community services such as District Nursing and Midwifery to a large geographical area, extending from Lytham St Anne's in the South to Morecambe and Carnforth in the North.
The Trust provides Tertiary Haematology services for Lancashire and South Cumbria and is the site of the Lancashire Cardiac Centre which provides comprehensive Tertiary cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical services for the adult population of Lancashire and South Cumbria (around 1.6 million people).

Except in emergencies or where otherwise agreed with your clinical manager, you are responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the programmed activities set out in your new Job Plan, as reviewed annually and in line with the provisions below.
- ii) Associated duties
You are responsible for the associated duties set out in schedule 2 of the Terms and Conditions. These include amongst other things a requirement to:-
- Collaborate with colleagues in primary and secondary care to implement protocols for the management of patients.
- Keep up to date with the developments in the specialty. It is expected that active consideration will be given to existing technologies in terms of cost effectiveness. In addition, the use of the new techniques where they can be justified clinically will be encouraged. Conforming to state of the art advances will ultimately depend on other priorities within the total unit.
- Contribute to post-graduate and continuing medical education. The Trust supports the requirement of CME/CDP as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
iii) Objectives
Agreed personal objectives will form part of individual Job Plans. Objectives will be set out in clear and transparent terms and will be agreed with an individuals clinical manager. Objectives are not contractually binding in themselves, but each individual has a duty to make all reasonable efforts to achieve them during the respective year.
