Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative and progressive middle grade to join our Genereal surgical team. These are fixed term posts for 6 months in the first instance with the possibility of longer term opportunities within the Trust subject to performance and progress. The appointee will cover all sites during elective activity but emergency oncall commitlents will be at MMUH only.
Applications are welcomed from candidates with MRCS (or equivalent). Elective commitments will include daycase, major elective surgery, out patients and endoscopy. Support and supervision will be provided as needed.
Main duties of the job
The successful appointees would be expected to be a fully integrated part of the General surgical team at middle grade level. Supervision of junior doctors would be expected with involvement in local Induction programmes. Full integration in the elective and emergency upper GI, lower GI and general surgical teams services is key to this post.

The JSD higher posts will allow you to consolidate your surgical experience in a supportive environment, giving you wide ranging clinical exposure and training in a progressive Trust that has won numerous national and local awards. The post will be based within the directorate of Surgery at SWBH.. The post holders will work a 1:11 full-shift system including prospective cover for annual andstudy leave.We would be keen to work with successful applicants to design rotations that would provide exposure to different specialties with in surgery to suit their training needs and career aspirations.
We envisage that the JSD (Higher) would act as a stepping stone into specialty training, and in the past years the post holders have successfully secured the national training numbers. The successful candidates will have significant relevant experience post qualification, full GMC Registration with a license to practice and previous UK experience.
