Job summary
SWB NHS Trust are currently looking for a Band 4 Senior Ophthalmic Technician. The post is based at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) providing Glaucoma diagnostics at BMEC and Sandwell Hospital.
The Senior technician will work in an outpatient setting. They will provide direct face to face patient assessment of visual acuity, visual field, OCT and CCT.
The Technician will be responsible for inputting the diagnostic test results and images to an ophthalmic electronic patient record system. The technician will be required to review the test results as each is obtained and to recognise when significant changes in the clinical condition have occurred and to raise concerns with a senior clinician.
In-house training will be provided to ensure that the post holder is competent to perform the clinical assessments and recognise changes in the clinical findings.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical diagnostic assessments on patients attending the Glaucoma service. They will be required to perform a range of clinical assessments including Humphrey and Goldmann visual fields, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans, Central Corneal Thickness (CCT) measurements, Visual acuity test.
The post holder will be part of a team of 9 Ophthalmic technicians who work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Doctors, Orthoptists, Optometrists and Nurses.
The post would be suitable for an individual with experience in ophthalmic diagnostics. Additional Training will be provided if required.
