Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic operational leader to join Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as Directorate General Manager (DGM) for Theatres, Anaesthetics and Pain Management.

In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of a complex, cross-site portfolio encompassing Theatres, Anaesthetics, and Pain Management. Working as part of the Surgical Division, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, efficient, and effective service delivery while driving modernisation, performance improvement, and financial sustainability.

You will work closely with the Divisional Director of Operations and Clinical Directors, providing strong and visible leadership that supports high-quality care, operational excellence, and an empowered, engaged workforce.

Main duties of the job

As Directorate General Manager - Theatres, Anaesthetics and Pain Management, you will:o Lead the operational delivery of services across all theatres, anaesthetics, and pain management.o Ensure services are safe, effective, and compliant with clinical governance and regulatory standards.o Drive operational performance, ensuring delivery against activity, quality, and financial targets.o Lead initiatives to improve theatre productivity, patient flow, and the efficiency of elective and emergency surgical pathways.o Support the implementation of service improvement and modernisation programmes, embedding new ways of working and innovation.o Manage budgets and resources effectively, delivering cost improvement and income generation schemes while maintaining financial balance.o Build and maintain strong working relationships with clinical teams, senior leaders, and corporate functions to ensure alignment and collaboration.o Provide visible and compassionate leadership to engage, motivate, and develop staff across all services
