Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Team as a Therapy Assistant, working at MMUH - our brand new hospital - which opened in October 2024. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person who is passionate about providing therapy to patients following traumatic injury or elective orthopaedic surgery. This post provides you with the opportunity to for a work across our acute Trauma and Orthopaedic wards, supporting the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Team who are treating patients admitted following traumatic injury or elective surgery. This will involve leading on and carrying out treatment and rehabilitation plans for these patients, whilst working closely alongside the wider MDT. In this role you would be required to work as part of the Trauma and Orthopaedic multidisciplinary team, alongside Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and Doctors. You would play a key role in gathering information from patients and their relatives / carers to understand their social, environmental and living circumstances, understanding how their injury or surgery impacts their ability to participate in their hobbies and meaningful function on discharge. Through this role, you would support these patients through their injury or surgery and achieve their goals carrying out rehabilitation plans and providing adaptive equipment, with a focus on supporting patients following elective orthopaedic surgery.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will become an integral member of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team, working to ensure optimal care for patients admitted to our acute Trauma and Orthopaedic wards. You will work as part of a cohesive multi-professional team, assessing and treating patients with a wide range of traumatic injuries, many of whom will have a range of clinical presentations. The post involves taking on responsibility for managing a caseload, which will involve providing therapy and rehabilitation, mobility progression and equipment provision for patients following elective orthopaedic surgery and traumatic injury. You will support with the implementation of functional and cognitive interventions and evaluate outcomes of physiotherapy and occupational therapy treatments. Through your role, you will be supporting with facilitating flow throughout the hospital with timely as part of each individual patients' recovery journey to prevent delay. This will include liaison with and referring onto to the appropriate agencies as needed. Development of skills and knowledge within this post will be of a high priority. The successful candidate would be expected to undertake training and would have the opportunity to work alongside the MDT. They would also receive strong support, teaching and guidance from the registered Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff.
