Job summary

The Consultant Sonographer will work totally autonomously in day-to-day practice with their own caseload. This will include performing and issuing reports on all Ultrasound examinations and performing Ultrasound guided interventional procedures which will include ENT biopsies/FNA's. An administration and audit session will provide an opportunity to confer with Consultant Radiologists reciprocally for difficult or equivocal cases.

This role is both clinical and strategic, to develop the service and support cancer objectives within this specialised field of head and neck.

Clinical duties will be undertaken across sites as required. The post holder will be a core member of the Ultrasound Multidisciplinary Team. Challenge and develop strategies to move outside boundaries of how care is delivered.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will possess an MSc in Radiography or its equivalent.

The post holder will provide and facilitate an expert level of care to patients presenting with or who are at risk of head and neck disease, including the assessment and diagnosis of patients.

You will exercise the highest degree of professional autonomy in the decision making process that will improve overall patient outcomes.

You will support the Imaging Directorate in developing Ultrasound Services in line with best practice and national imperatives.

The successful candidate will be an expert practitioner and act as a Consultant in all aspects of Ultrasound diagnosis. They will provide clinical leadership, consultancy and professional education as part of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
