Job summary

SWBH NHS Trust provides the NHSBSP service to an eligible population of ~175,000 ladies within the North, East and West Birmingham, Sandwell & Walsall area.

The service is seeking a hardworking and dedicated Assistant Practitioner - Mammographer to join our forward thinking breast care team, with potential opportunities of progression to Band 5 Senior Assistant Practitioner role.

This is a substantive post covering the screening and symptomatic pathways at City Hospital Birmingham and Walsall Manor Hospital where Hologic Dimensions and GE Pristina equipment are installed. The service has 5 dedicated screening mobile units that are used within the community.

The service is actively involved in several key national breast trials such as Prospects and Mammo 50. The breast unit is looking to expand to incorporate new technologies such as CESM and ABUS alongside current technologies such as tomography.

The applicant will possess excellent interpersonal skills and will be willing to work closely with the clinical team to maintain an effective and efficient service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder undertakes mammographic examinations on mobile breast screening vans under remote radiographic supervision at sites within the North, East, West Birmingham areas, Sandwelland Walsall which covers a diverse population, giving women access to the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP). The post holder will also perform mammographic examinations on symptomatic patient and undertake reception and administration duties, and image and date transfer.

Duties will be undertaken at City Hospital and Walsall Manor Hospital to NHSBSP guidelines and Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust Quality Managements System (QMS) operating procedures.

There is an expectation that the post holder would participate in current shift patterns as deemed appropriate by service requirements.

The post holder will take part in Breast Screening Quality Assurance and audit, liaising closely with the Clinical Superintendent Radiographer / Programme Manager and Quality Assurance (QA) radiographer.

To provide care for women who are returning to the assessment clinic who will be in an extremely anxious state of mind.

To lead and assist other members of the mammography team in conducting departmental audits.
