Sandwell & West Birmingham Nutrition & Dietetic Services are seeking to recruit an advanced Dietitian into a newly created clinical leadership role within our expanding service. This is an exciting step for our service as we seek to build on our existing clinical leadership structure and strengthen our clinical representation as our services expand. We are seeking an innovative individual who is driven to lead within our Acute Surgical/Gastro services. Candidates will be joining a service at a time of considerable opportunity. You will need to use highly developed interpersonal skills to foster strong relationships within the wider MDT, acute nutrition MDT plus an integral role within the PN nutrition team. The successful post holder will demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge and skills in adult acute surgical and gastro dietetics. With a proven track record of leading for quality improvement within Dietetic teams. Our service covers all aspects of nutrition nursing & dietetic care within the Trust; for adults, paediatrics and transition services across inpatient, community and outpatient pathways. The post-holder would join our existing acute leadership structure working alongside our Clinical Nurse Specialists and Acute Dietitian Team Leaders which will include exposure to a range of services and opportunities.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting role at an exciting time for Dietetics, Allied Health Professionals and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS trust as we seek to become the leading provider of integrated care bringing lots of opportunities for future development. This post holder will lead and provide specialist dietetic services to adults on the acute Gastro/surgical wards. Providing evidence based nutritional assessments and management for all adults requiring specialist and complex nutrition interventions. The post holder will work as an integral part of the PN nutrition Team, providing expert dietetic management of complex PN patients. The Nutrition and Dietetics Department is a growing team of 30-40 dietitians and nutrition nurses; based across Sandwell and West Birmingham. We have regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision sessions and education meetings. Continuing professional development is promoted and supported. The Department trains student dietitians from Coventry and Birmingham City Universities across the full range of placements.

- Extensive post-graduate clinical experience in surgical/ gastroenterological dietetics in an inpatient and outpatient setting with both group and individual interventions in oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition
- Responsive to changing service needs and pressures, with a proven ability to implement change (clinically/ managerially
- Clinical supervisory skills training and past involvement in student training.
- Evidence of continued Professional Development relevant to clinical area and to an advanced level.
Desirable
- Managerial experience of other dietetic staff/non-registered staff, supporting their development
- Experience of appraisal and performance managing staff
- Policy/protocol development/ evaluation
- Advanced practice based competencies related to artificial tube feeding and parenteral nutrition
