Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative and progressive Consultant to join our Ophthalmology Glaucoma Consultant team. The appointee will work at Birmingham& Midland Eye Centre and Sandwell General Hospital. Applications are welcomed from candidates with FRCOphth (or equivalent) who are on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register Ophthalmology or who will be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview. In addition applicants should demonstrate within their application that they are fully trained in cataract surgery, a fellowship experience in glaucoma will be desirable. Experienced clinicians without CCT will be welcomed.

This job is a substantive job.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

The post will enable the successful applicant to develop new ways of working in glaucoma, virtual services and further development of extended teams with AHPs. The appointee will take equal responsibility with existing Consultants for the proper functioning of the clinical service, working with clinical and managerial colleagues towards achieving and maintaining national maximum waiting times and developing clinical pathways in line with the maximum 18-week patient pathway guarantee. There is a commitment to General Ophthalmology on-call as part of this post.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Ophthalmology
  • Surgical fellowship in Glaucoma
  • Specialist interest in Glaucoma
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management of acute medical emergencies
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients

Desirable

  • Previous experience in providing complex Glaucoma service

  • GMC registration with License to Practice

  • Formal training in teaching
