Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for a newly qualified Optometrist or a Contact Lens Optician (Band 6) to join the Optometry team supporting core Optometry role services at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre. This opportunity is suitable for Optometrists wishing to develop their skills in medical contact lens fitting and aftercares (including keratoconic, post corneal graft, aphakic, occlusive, bandage and diagnostic/therapeutic) as well as refractions (both routine and diagnostic). Low Vision assessment also forms an essential part of the role.
Training support will be provided.
Interviews will take place Wednesday 10th July 2024.
Main duties of the job
Refractions (Routine and diagnostic) on Keratoconic, post graft, Aphakic and irregular corneas.
Contact Lens aftercares on the following group of patients: keratoconic, post corneal graft, aphakic, occlusive, bandage and diagnostic/therapeutic
Low Vision Aid Assessments and aftercares
Virtual telephone consultations on Low Vision patients.

Essential
- Qualified Optometrist having a BSc in Ophthalmic Optics (Optometry), MCOptom or equivalent in the UK. Or Qualified Dispensing Optician with additional Contact Lens Optician qualifications
- Current registration with the General Optical Council.
- Appropriate current CPD credits (Continued Professional Development) as recognised by the General Optical Council.
GOC Registration
Essential
- Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality patient care.
- Experience of audit initiatives and other quality initiatives.
- Proven Experience in the involvement in teaching and learning initiatives.
Desirable
- Some post registration experience
- Hospital experience
