This role provides you the opportunity to deliver a high standard of podiatry care across the full landscape of the Diabetic Footcare pathway. This will specifically include specialist diabetic foot clinics within the Community, Out-patients , In-patient and Domiciliary settings , and involve the treatment of arthropathies involving major deformities and/or disabilities, ischaemic and ulcerated states, annual review/screening clinics and diabetic foot health education.

As a practicing clinician you will perform specialist podiatry assessments of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and to develop and deliver a specialised individual treatment programme to benefit the patients needs.

Main duties of the job

You will hold responsibility for your own caseload and be responsible for the delivery of a community diabetic foot health service for at risk diabetic patients and to act as a source of expertise in the management of the diabetic foot for primary care and working without direct supervision. Clinical Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences. Access to advice and support from a more senior podiatrist is available when required. Clinical work and documentation will be routinely evaluated.

An educational component of the role involves training of primary care staff in conducting annual diabetic foot reviews, the advice that should be given to low risk diabetics, early identification of foot complications and appropriate referral undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

There will also be participation of audit and service improvement activities to demonstrate adherence.

Due to the requirements of the role, a driver and daily access to a car is essential .

We are continually looking to develop and support our clinicians with new skills and training Via PDR , individual training budgets and core training needs opportunities and competencies to enhance our available interventions and services and to meet the changing needs of the diabetic foot.

  • Post graduate experience of a range of complex foot problems including diabetic/vascular clinics, nail surgery, rheumatology and bio-mechanical assessments
  • Experience of working as part of a Podiatry team and the wider MDT (e.g Medical staff, Physiotherapists, Orthotists
  • Experience of delegating to and supervising Podiatry Assistants and Technical Instructors
  • Contribution to the clinical education of less experienced staff or undergraduate Podiatry students
