Job summary
It is an exciting time to join the trust with Midland Metropolitan University Hospital due to open in 2024, and the forward thinking chemotherapy team are constantly looking at new ways of working. The unit is currently based at City Hospital.
We are looking for dynamic and motivated haemotology trained nurses to join us. You should be competent in cannulation and phlebotomy and have excellent communication skills.
The ward is currently a 9 bedded inpatient Haematology ward (D12). Ward D12 cares for patients with all Haematological conditions, malignances and Sickle cell and Thalassemia patients.
Experience within Haematology/Oncology is essential and a fully signed and up to date or working towards Systemic anti cancer therapy passport is required.
We actively support professional development through provision of places on National Study Days and Conferences where appropriate.

Main duties of the job
In this role you will be responsible for:
Leading a team of experienced and junior nurses to care for patients in an acute setting. Working alongside the band 7 and acting as deputy when required too, to ensure the smooth running and maintaining a safe environment for colleagues and patients.
- Assessment of patient pre chemotherapy
- Safe administration of SACT and supportive therapies
- Managing scheduling and workload
- Management of neutropenic sepsis
- Management of chemotherapy toxicities
- Acute clinical skills
- Prioritising patient care
- Ability to work a flexible shift pattern
