Over view of the job role

Applicants are invited to apply for a clinical teaching fellow in obstetrics and gynecology - a hybrid job containing a teaching role and a clinical role.

The appointee will be integral part of the teaching program and assessment of the medical students of both the University if Birmingham and Aston Medical school during their placement in obstetrics and gynaecology at Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. The clinical part will be participation on the middle grade on call rota within the department.

The appointee will join a team of committed clinical teachers and will contribute to the design, development, delivery, and assessment of undergraduate clinical education in the trust.

The CTF post will deliver 60% of their role as education based as above and 40% as service provision within the department mainly in the on-call rota which includes nights and long days

An opportunity to study Postgraduate medical education certificate during the year will be supported with time and funding.

This Job is available to start as soon as possible.

This Job is for fixed term of 12 months on the first instance with possibility to be extended with mutual agreement.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate is expected to deliver regular clinical teaching to undergraduate medical students and contribute to the development of clinical skills teaching and assessment.

It is expected for the successful candidate to work collaboratively with other CTFs within the trust in development of teaching, Innovations and cross-cover of teaching responsibilities including simulation sessions.

The appointee will contribute to organisation of undergraduate examinations with the Head of Undergraduate Teaching Academy and Senior academy tutors and required to attend UGME academic and educational meetings.

This clinical part will be participation of 1 in 8 obstetrics and gynaecology middle grade on call rota. That would be second on call and minimum of two years previous experience in obstetrics and gynaecology is required. This will allow successful candidate to maintain their clinical skills
