Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative and Consultant to join our Paediatric Ophthalmology Consultant team. The appointee will cover Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre and Sandwell General Hospital during the on call. Applications are welcomed from candidates with FRCOphth (or equivalent) who are on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register or who will be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview. A fellowship experience or equivalent in Paediatric Ophthalmology will be essential.
Applicants should demonstrate their capability to independently manage ophthalmology problems in children and adults. The candidate should be able to manage complex paediatric ophthalmology conditions and have experience in ROP management. The post holder will be helping to develop new ways of working in paediatric ophthalmology and will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the Trust to develop general and specialist paediatric ophthalmology services. There is a planned expansion of virtual services along with streamlining of current service. This job is a substantive job.

Main duties of the job
The post will enable the successful applicant to develop sub sub-specialty interests in paediatric and general ophthalmology.
The appointee will take equal responsibility with existing Consultants for the proper functioning of the elective and urgent clinical service, working with clinical and managerial colleagues towards achieving and maintaining national maximum waiting times and developing clinical pathways in line with the maximum 18-week patient pathway guarantee. There may be a commitment to General Ophthalmology on-call as part of this post, which at present is 1:16 (which may change in future).
