Consultant Acute Internal Medicine
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative and progressive Consultant to join our Acute Medical Consultant team. The appointee will cover all areas of Acute Internal medicine which include the Acute Medical Units, Short Stay Units, Medical SDEC, Virtual Clinical and our Acute Hospital At Home service- EPICENTRE. We are looking for individuals who will lead, innovate, teach and be involved in research. In addition, a key aspect of the role would be to support our move to our acute hospital Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
Applicants need to demonstrate a wide breadth of knowledge, experience and skills within AIM. This would include POCUS , leadership and QIP delivery. A specialty session outside acute medicine is guaranteed and we are willing to look at joint specialty job plans including frailty, intensive care medicine and toxicology. We are also very keen to accommodate flexible working.

Main duties of the job
The Acute Medicine department is renown for being the most popular site for Acute medical trainees and is a national centre for POCUS training and accreditation. We have the first dedicated AMU Clinical Skills Lab within the UK which houses a POCUS simulator, CVP, LP and Chest drain training equipment. Trainees receive training in POCUS, leadership, and are involved heavily in teaching and education. Feedback from the our trainees is this team provides one of the best training within the Trust. This has been credited to the teamwork "family" ethos that has been created and sustained. The department has been recognised with local, national and international awards/recognition of work, services and innovation including our Epicentre work by HSJ and the Parliamentary Awards.
The successful candidate will contribute to the acute medicine department in terms of service delivery within the acute medical take. They will work on the AMU, SSU, MSDEC, Virtual Clinical and our Acute Hospital At Home service- EPICENTRE. They will contribute to the teaching, education supervision of junior doctors and our wider MDT including our ACPs and trainee ACPs. We would expect the successful candidate to contribute to the development of our have 3 fellows - Research, POCUS and EPICNENTRE. The successful candidate will also lead on service innovation, QIP to research and contribute heavily to the governance and safe running of the department.

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens in 2024 and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises.As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH from 2024 (or beyond). The single-site Acute Hospital will benefit from co-located specialist services which will support the new Emergency Department with dedicated imaging facility and Assessment Units. It will provide state-of-the-art treatment and care for patients from Sandwell and across the region and will become the civic heart of the area and a point of pride for the community.
