Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Specialist Screening Practitioner to join our Bowel Cancer Screening team. If successful you will join our friendly, supportive team.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we continue to implement the national initiative of age reduction in Bowel Cancer Screening. The age range will be reducing to enable those between the ages of 50 -74 years of age to undertake screening for bowel cancer. In addition, the programme is taking on surveillance for people with a diagnosis of Lynch Syndrome.
The post involves providing high quality and seamless patient care for the Sandwell & West Birmingham population, who are being screened for bowel cancer. The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner following a probation period and will be responsible for the delivery of care to service users. The post will be based at Sandwell General Hospital, with the succesful candidate also expected to work across City Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Occasional weekend work may also be required.
Main duties of the job
Successful applicants will require excellent communication, and holistic assessment skills, as well as a keen interest in endoscopy, polyp management and general cancer care. Previous experience in endoscopy, colorectal or cancer nursing would be advantageous but not essential, as would familiarity with health promotion practice and the running of nurse-led clinics.
The successful applicant will be expected to commence the Screening Practitioner's course at Liverpool John Moore's University either at level 6 or 7 within the first 12 months of commencing the post. This is a mandatory requirement for the role and includes a residential element. Candidates will be committed to continuous professional development, possess excellent organizational, and managerial skills, and the passion to deliver to the highest standard.

- Ensure timely access to screening colonoscopy or alternative diagnostic intervention and seamless transition to agreed pathways in primary, secondary, tertiary or out-patient care settings, during all stages of the screening pathway.
- To establish effective links with local colorectal cancer multi-disciplinary teams in order to ensure that when cancer is detected, there is timely presentation and transfer of patients to the multi-disciplinary team.

- Participate in ongoing data collection and quality assurance, service feedback and audit with particular responsibility for the follow-up of patients at 30 days.
