Job summary
Are you a dynamic, passionate Occupational Therapist with experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 /established Band 7 Occupational Therapist to apply for a permanent position as an Advanced Occupational Therapist in T&O for Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.
As part of your role you will ensure best quality integrated therapy across the acute T&O pathways, delivering efficient and effective patient flow and seamless patient experience.You will play a lead role in developing and establishing the OT pathway for patients within the T&O service to support delivery of specialist assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning including D2A.In the future we are hoping to develop a Community Orthopaedic service and strong OT involvement would be needed to develop and implement this.You will work alongside an established band 7 Physiotherapist to support the day to day operational leadership of the team.
As a Trust we will support you with learning objectives and training and encourage you to network with peers across the region.
You will lead OT education and clinical competency assurance within T&O elective and trauma pathways.
Main duties of the job
Be an expert clinician within T&O elective and Trauma pathways undertaking highly developed specialist therapeutic assessment of patients presenting with diverse, complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis, develop and deliver individual treatment programs and lead d/c planning.
Be responsible for a defined area of service and own caseload working without supervision.
Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
Provide expertise within T&O pathways to multi-disciplinary colleagues, patients and carer's through specialist advice and education.
Supervise, assess and educate therapists, support workers and student therapists, utilising a standardised clinical competency framework.
Liaise regularly with senior therapy and multidisciplinary colleagues to facilitate best patient journey & experience and clinical outcome.
Provide clinical leadership to therapists and support workers within the specialty through supervision, assessment, education and development.
Lead the supervision and assessment of undergraduate/post-graduate OT students within own clinical area as required ensuring the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by a degree/higher degree level.
Lead evidence based audit and research projects to further therapy practice, making and acting upon recommendations for changes in practice to improve service delivery including the formulation and implementation of therapy service protocols.
