Job summary

It is an exciting time to work at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals while we prepare to move into the brand new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in 2024.

The Haematology team are looking for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join the CNS team, supporting both in and outpatients across the trust. You will need to have excellent communication skills and be competent in the administration of chemotherapy. We are currently looking at extending the roles of specialist nurses within the specialty, and there will be training opportunities to support your development.

Main duties of the job

Supporting Haematology patients from diagnosis throughout their cancer journey.

The post holder will work with the band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist and other clinical colleagues in haematology, oncology, palliative care, pathology and pharmacy to ensure quality of care to haematology patients and their relatives throughout the pathway, managing a caseload of patients supported by the existing team.

The post holder will give advice, education and support to nursing staff caring for haematology patients, and will be involved in development of the service (including peer review, guidelines and teaching programmes) alongside the cancer management team, haematology MDT and service users

About us

The Haematology service at SWBH currently includes an newly refurbished inpatient ward at City Hospital, outpatient clinics on both the City and Sandwell sites, chemotherapy unit on the City site, and the regional sickle cell and thalassaemia centre is on the City site.

The inpatient and sickle cell service are expected to move into purpose built units in the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in 2024.

The Haematology CNS team work closely with the Acute Oncology Team and are supported by assistant practitioners
