Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of substantive consultant in urology. The successful candidates will join a dynamic team of eight consultants providing urological services in Sandwell and West Birmingham. Existing consultants have developed sub-speciality interest to provide a specialist service in various aspects of urology. The post holders will be expected to have comprehensive training in all aspects of urology especially general urology.

The Trust is one of the largest Teaching Trusts in the UK, employing around 7500 staff, serving a population of over 500,000 and having around 1000 beds. In partnership with integrated care services among Black Country Hospitals, the Trust is seeking to deliver an ambitious redevelopment of local health services including new models of care and facilities. The plan includes a new state of the art acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and will have dedicated urology theatre and wards.

Applicants must possess full registration with the GMC, FRCS Urol. (or equivalent) and a higher qualification is desirable. However, it is essential that applicants are included on the GMC Specialist Register in Urology at the time of the interview.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established, dynamic and expanding department. The post attracts 10.0 PAs. Major portion of work will be around core urology. Specialist interest in general paediatric urology will be advantageous. Key responsibilities of the posts will be the development and delivery of urological elective care, both in patient and outpatients, supported by the existing urology team. Participation in our new on-site lithotripter service, dedicated LUTS clinic and general paediatric urology clinics and theatres will be available to the successful candidate, depending upon their area of interest. Active participation in teaching and training of medical students, junior doctors and specialist registrars will be required. Participation will be required in departmental MDT, uro-radiology meetings and quality assurance meetings.

Successful candidate will be part of 1 in 7 on call rota.
