Forging ahead in the Black Country: The Public Health Maternity Team.

Maternity services at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust are determined to tackle health inequalities and make a difference by ensuring families in the local communities have the best start. The population that we serve are diverse and often greatly impacted upon by deprivation. Our ultimate goal is to reduce perinatal and maternal mortality and morbidity and improve outcomes and experiences for all. We have recently launched our first community maternity hub with the second on the way. The maternity hubs offer us the opportunity to do things differently in midwifery and to really make a positive impact for women and their families. Therefore, we are highly excited to be in the privileged position of setting up a 'Best Start Maternity Team'. The team will take a public health approach when working with families to promote healthy pregnancy, thereby improving outcomes. Main duties of the job

It is intended that the 'Best Start Midwives' will ensure that a seamless midwifery care pathway is provided. The Team will be motivated to offer point of care intensive support for pregnant women to encourage the best possible outcomes, particularly for women and their babies whom may otherwise be at risk of poorer outcomes. Having the ability to build trusting positive relationships and deliver personalised midwifery care will be a priority.   • Able to take the professional lead in caring for low risk women
