Job summary
The department of Clinical Immunology at City Hospital are seeking to employ a Band 6 Immunology Nurse. The Clinical Immunology Service cares for patients with Immune deficiencies and Allergic conditions.The role provides an opportunity to work across both elements of the service and develop skills and experience in the management, treatment and education of patients with acute, chronic and complex conditions. The successful applicant will primarily work within the Allergy service, working alongside Consultant Immunologists and the Allergy Nursing team to manage patients with Allergy.Previous experience in caring for patients with Allergy is desirable but not essential, applicants with a high level of transferable skills and clinical skills applicable to this post will be considered and training for this position will be provided. The post holder will also be expected to develop their knowledge and skills base by attending specialty related courses and events.We are looking to fill 1 full time position. Working hours will be 08:30am - 16:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Main duties of the job
Work includes:
Skin prick testing, intra-dermal testing and interpretation of results.
Advising patients on allergen avoidance measures and providing relevant information sheets.
Training patients in use of adrenaline auto-injectors, nasal spray and inhaler use
Arranging and administration of sublingual (SLIT) and subcutaneous (SCIT) Immunotherapy treatments
Care of Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria patients including assessment through telephone clinics and arranging administration of Omalizumab subcutaneous injections based on assessment of need as per NICE guidance.
Arranging and undertaking oral provocation (challenge) testing to food and medications.
(Intra-dermal testing, SCIT and provocation tests would be under direct supervision of Consultant Immunologist or a suitably qualified trainee doctor nominated by the consultant.)
Maintaining stocks of all required medications through liaison with consultants, secretaries and pharmacy is also a requirement. The post holder is expected to have the skills and knowledge to maintain patient databases.
