Job summary
The post holder will work with an established nursing team at Sandwell and City Hospital sites, patients in the acute and outpatient setting, with exposure to our tertiary centres.
The Upper Gastrointestinal/Hepato-biliary (Upper GI/HPB) nursing team are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 5 nurse to improve the Cancer Pathways of Upper GI/HPB Cancer patients who attend Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
This 12 month post has the potential to progress into a Band 6 Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist role, if competencies are completed and achieved to the standard required.
Main duties of the job
Clinically the post holder will work within the Upper GI/HPB nursing teams, within the acute setting. They will support in the admission, assessment and clinical management of patients with Upper GI/HPB cancer patients who will require support, symptom management and also have palliative care needs. A case load will be held but overall clinical management will be supported / directed by the CNS/ACP.
Clinical input is expected in the ward areas / Endoscopy units and the outpatient settings, as well as a good relationship with our tertiary centres. A strong working relationship with cancer services, palliative care and acute oncology departments are expected.
You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work autonomously and flexibly with an ability to organize and priorities your own workload, and to work flexibly within the team being supported by the senior nurses. A passion for delivering excellent cancer care is essential.
You must be a first level registered nurse with post registration experience of gastroenterology medical/surgical care and have evidenced relevant continuous professional development.
