Job summary

The successful candidate will complement the expertise of the twelve other existing consultants in our large teaching trust, providing gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy to a culturally diverse population.

Posts are based at Sandwell General Hospital and City Hospital, Birmingham, and cover the area local to Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. As part of this programme, we are building our eagerly awaited Midland Metropolitan Hospital which will put us firmly on the map as one of the nation's leading provider of integrated care. It will bring all of our acute services onto one site, promoting better patient safety and patient experience. Teams are supporting cross-site work over the two existing acute sites as we prepare teams for our future models of care. This also provides excellent training and team development opportunities.

This job is a substantive job.

Closing date: 20th sept 2023

Interview date: 20th Oct 2023

Main duties of the job

This post is a key part of our plans to expand and develop sub-specialisation in the department. Opportunities are available in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Hepatology and Nutrition as these are key areas we would like to develop further, however applicants with other subspecialty interests including endoscopy, education, research and clinical leadership are very much encouraged to apply.

About us

Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens in 2024 and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH from 2024 (or beyond). If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continuing your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.

We have three newly emerging strategic objectives:

  1. Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
  2. Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do
  3. Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
