The Nutrition and Dietetics Service at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is excited to recruit a specialist dietitian to work within our acute diabetes service; working across paediatric diabetes outpatients and with newly diagnosed children on the inpatient unit. As the successful applicant you will be working within our proud and forward thinking MDT, alongside colleagues who are friendly, approachable and supportive and who truly value dietitians as part of the MDT service.

This is an exciting time for Dietetics, Allied Health Professionals and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS trust as we prepare to move to our brand new Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital in the Summer of 2024.

Main duties of the job

The successful posthlder will run outpatient clinics as part of the consultant-led MDT; both within the MDT outpatient setting and as dietetic led clinics. The caseload consist of working with children, young people and their adult and includes all phases of dietetic care from diagnosis and across a variety of age ranges and is inclusive of transitional clinics for patients at the point of moving into adult care. Our diabetes adult and paediatric service is integrated and this post is supported by our Diabetes Dietitian Team Leader and is part of our team of 5 dietitians working in the specialist area of diabetes.

Inpatient care is focussed on supporting newly diagnosed individuals and their families to learn the fundamentals of carbohydrate care following diagnosis. You will have a varied and interesting case load of patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes diagnoses and will be working with children and young people and their adult/carer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the people on their caseload.

You will be joining a progressive service that is part of the national paediatric diabetes peer review programme. Outpatient clinics are structured to promote MDT working and so you will never feel unsupported in your role.

The Department trains student dietitians from Coventry and Birmingham City Universities across the full range of placements.
