Job summary
An exciting opportunity has risen for a Band 6 midwife to work within an innovative and forward thinking Safeguarding Children Team. Working alongside the Deputy Named Midwives you will support the Safeguarding Named Midwife in ensuring that the Trust Maternity service meets its statutory obligations for safeguarding whilst driving forward the safeguarding agenda.
We are seeking a highly experienced midwife with significant experience of safeguarding, who can demonstrate a sound knowledge base and skills to improve the outcomes for children and the associated legislative requirements.
The successful applicant will need to be able to work both under direction and independently within the safeguarding team, in an innovative and creative manner to ensure the maternity staff awareness of the growing safeguarding agenda. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the Safeguarding Named Midwife and therefore you will require excellent communication, organisational and presentation skills. Additionally, this role will involve supporting the Safeguarding Children Team to meet all training commitments.
The post is part-time job share, Monday, Tuesday and alternate Friday's 9am-5pm

Main duties of the job
- To provide advice and support to midwives and medical staff in developing care for families where there is concern for the safety of the unborn or delivered baby.
- To provide group supervision to midwifery staff in accordance with SWBT Child Protection Supervision Policy and to escalate areas of concerns to the Named Midwife and Named Nurses for Safeguarding children.
- To work in partnership with the Named Midwife, Designated professionals and Named and Lead professionals within SWB.
- Organise own work and manage day to day working, seeking, and escalating matters for attention and support when relevant and required.
- Provide advice and support to staff in situations deemed appropriate where there are complex needs including the co-ordination of multi-agency resources for individual clients in need.
- Formulate new policies, procedures and update existing guidelines.
