Job summary
The role of Maintenance Assistant supports people using our services by ensuring our buildings are safe and warm environments to work in, visit and be treated.
To carry out and complete basic/routine maintenance activities as instructed, ensuring that operational standards are maintained at all times. This can include, but is not limited to, building fabric, general monthly PPM tasks, plumbing, drainage, joinery, and general decoration repairs.
To maintain effective site log books at all NHS Trust premises ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
The role will support the Estates Manager, who oversees all building related operations. You will also be the day to day contact for our Estates Team and help us live our values every day, by putting patient care at the centre of your approach.
Main duties of the job
- To contribute to delivering the Trust's estates strategy by assisting in the
- Day to day running of our sites.
- To develop strong and positive working relationships with clinical colleagues to maximise the potential of the building.
- Ensure that the fabric and fixtures and fittings of the estate is maintained to a high standard and meets the Trust's current and future needs
- Ensure daily and short-term maintenance of all areas of the Estate. This will be supported and directed by the Estates Manager.
- To ensure appropriate safeguarding and health and safety compliance and that all risk assessments and contractor safety checks are carried out

- Full UK Driving Licence and access to a motor vehicle.
- Proven experience in a building trade or building maintenance/ caretaker role.
Desirable
- Level 2 or equivalent building fabric related qualification and/or trade apprenticeship
- General H&S awareness training

- Appropriate knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety, COSHH and environment standards
- Competency in manual handling, working at height, confined spaces, legionella & asbestos awareness
- Able to work from drawings and written specifications
- Experience of liaising effectively with building users, external consultants and external contractors
- Experience of basic building maintenance and providing facilities services within business premises

- Ability to work without supervision
