Clinical Specialist - Speech & Language Therapist

Job summary

Band 6 Speech and Language therapist to work in the Community Brain Injury Team (CBIT).The Community Brain Injury Team provides high-quality neuro-rehabilitation to address the physical, psychological and social consequences of brain injury.

The speech and language therapy postholder will work embedded within CBIT to provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention to optimise the communication of the service users. Colleagues will be an occupational therapist (team lead), physio, psychologist, rehab worker and admin support.

Applications are welcomed from staff currently employed by other NHS Trusts on a part-time basis. You may work across two Trusts, subject to the condition that your total aggregate working hours across both employers do not exceed the standard full-time working week of 37.5 hours. We will require you to work 15 hours with us though.

Main duties of the job

- To provide expert speech and language therapy assessment andrehabilitation to service users of the Community Brain Injury Team (CBIT)- To provide a consistently high standard of goal-orientated treatmentprogrammes for patients with complex neuro-rehabilitation needs.-To ensure excellent communication and guidance to the clinical team,patients, carers and families on the communication needs of the person to optimise their recovery and function.

  • Experience of multi-disciplinary / interagency working including autonomous and collaborative working
  • Treatment of a broad range of conditions relating to clinical specialty (neurorehab and specifically brain injury)
  • Further training relevant to the role
  • Post registration experience of working within a relevant setting and specialty
  • An understanding of relevant legal frameworks including Mental Capacity Act, Health and Care Act, Care Act, Health and Safety etc.

Desirable

  • Membership of a professional special interest group

  • Understanding and expertise in the principles of risk assessment and risk management
  • Ability to respond efficiently to complex information within tight deadlines and prioritise accordingly
