Job summary

Canterbury CMHSOP is a well established, supportive and welcoming service. We offer a community service for both older people with mental health needs, which are complicated by age related needs, and for people, of all ages, who have needs related to dementia. We also provide support and advice to professionals, care homes and carers.

Our team comprises psychiatrists, community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, psychological therapists, support workers, Admiral nurses and administrative staff. Support for the team includes regular supervision, monthly reflective practice groups and critical incident debrief when necessary.

We are proud to support a service user activist group for people living with dementia and share good links with the Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Project.

We welcome applications for a trainee clinical psychologist to participate in the provision of psychological services on a fixed term contract until the end of March 2025.

Main duties of the job

To participate in the provision of psychological services to older adult clients with mental health difficulties under the professional guidance of a qualified psychological therapist.

In particular:

To be responsible for supporting and enhancing the provision of Specialist Psychological Services to older adult clients with complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties entering the Community Mental Health Service for Older People.

To undertake structured psychometric assessment and therapeutic psychological interventions in these services using own independent initiative within guidelines provided by a qualified psychological therapist.

To undertake clinically related administration, audit and research projects, teaching and service improvement project work.

An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology or mental health/Learning disability /health psychology

Experience of working with older people with mental health needs.
