Job summary

The Head of Business Applications owns the business applications portfolio and provides a support service to meet the demands of the Trust. The current application portfolio includes clinical systems such as the electronic patients record system (Rio). However, we are looking to grow the number of applications supported by the team to include other clinical and corporate services systems which are currently managed within business units.

We are looking for an experienced business applications leader who can develop an applications plan and assess the capability of current applications with a view to rationalisation and data integration.

The post holder will develop and lead a skilled team and support them in their day to day operational work, balancing business as usual activities and application development to ensure that applications keep pace with evolving business needs.

Main duties of the job

Applications:

  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with key business stakeholders and super users.
  • Manage the portfolio of key business applications and interfaces.
  • Oversee the development of associated reports.
  • Oversee the training and support of application users.
  • Manage 3rd party suppliers and/or development.

Data:

  • Ensure the right data is available to business decision makers.
  • Manage data throughout business process.
  • Ensure data remains high quality, consistent and complete across all applications.
  • Manage databases as required in order to enable reporting and interfaces.
  • Ensure that sufficient security is in place to protect patient and Trust data.

Process:

  • Drive continuous process improvement to improve efficiency while maintaining key controls.

Job responsibilities

Create and deliver a business application plan and roadmap, including a vision for how products will drive positive experiences for system users, foster greater productivity throughout the Trust and reduce the administrative burden on staff.

Develop and utilise the application portfolio to meet business requirements and bring the highest degree of benefit to end users. Provide leadership and line management to the staff assigned to the team, leading with passion, enthusiasm and integrity.

Actively manage relationships with vendors ensuring awareness of application roadmaps. Act as a liaison point between the business and key suppliers, maintaining key relationships to the advantage of the Trust.

Working within IT and IG policies, analyse, build, test and release applications on time and to specification to deliver the required benefits.

Manage the business applications budget.

Plan, prioritise and perform upgrades, fixes or minor enhancements including testing and release management.

Be responsible for service delivery ensuring sufficient system capacity is available, renewal plans to maintain supportability and security of applications.

Manage a team of first and second line support analysts. Act as an escalation point for major issues.

Plan and provide resources and expertise to support the delivery of projects and continuous product enhancement to align with digital transformation goals within the Trust.

Support the implementation and effective operation of ITIL processes including change, request, incident and problem management.

Manage security, user rights and ensure changes comply with information governance requirements.
