Job summary
Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership is excited to expand it's Physician Associate (PA) workforce in the Acute inpatient wards in Dartford, Maidstone and Canterbury.
Please be aware there are 4 new jobs available to join the current 3 PA already recruited.
Each PA will be working on one Acute ward within a strong multi-disciplinary team led by a dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist, other doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and pharmacists.
The PA will be supported to become familiar in their roles by working in an observer capacity for the first 4 weeks inclusive of induction days.
The PA will have one to one supervision from their Consultant Psychiatrist once every two weeks.
They will be supported to attend 2 sessions of supportive activities in a week; the other 8 sessions being clinical. The supportive activities will include CPD activities (internal and external) and opportunities to do Audits, Quality Improvement Projects and research.
Main duties of the job
PAs play a key role in the management of patients, support the effective functioning of the wards and wider service developments. They will be accountable for ensuring high quality patient care is delivered at all times.
The PA will work flexibly with other clinicians to strengthen / compliment the MDT including cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will ensure accurate records are maintained.
They will undertake mandatory and other training specific to their role and complete an annual appraisal and PDP.
PA will be expected to register with the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR) and keep up to date with necessary professional development.
They will be accountable for their clinical responsibilities, comply with the Department of Health, UK Managed Voluntary Register for Fitness to Practice and all trust policies.

Job responsibilities
Physician Associates play a key role in the management of patients and to support the effective functioning of the wards and to wider service developments. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that high quality patient care is delivered at all times. The Physician Associate will be supervised by a designated consultant with regular supervision to support on-going development within the role. The Physician Associate will attend regular internal and external CPD sessions to support the 50 hours on-going development.
The Physician Associates will have one to one supervision from their Consultant Psychiatrist once every two weeks.
They will be supported to attend two (2) sessions of supportive activities in a week; the other eight (8) sessions being clinical. The supportive activities will include half a day of CPD and half a day of Audit/Quality improvement activities/Service development activities. The CPD sessions comprise one hour of CPD for trainee doctors, currently held on a Monday at 12.30pm, as well as dedicated CPD for Physician Associates.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
The Physician Associate will be based on their dedicated acute inpatient ward but may also be asked to undertake work to support another ward.
Physician Associates will be expected to work flexibly and co-operatively with other clinicians to strengthen and compliment the MDT and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will ensure accurate records are maintained.
Physician Associates will undertake mandatory training and other training specific to their role in conjunction with the Medical Education Department. They will complete an annual appraisal and PDP.
Physician Associates will be provided with a weekly timetable outlining fixed clinical commitments such as ward rounds, hand overs, supervision and training. They will also have time for undertaking roles related to their skill set in the clinical setting as detailed below. They will be expected to respond to clinical demands and play a role in prioritising clinical and other needs.
Physician Associates will be expected to register with the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR) run by the Faculty of Physician Associates at the Royal College of Physicians and be expected to keep up to date with necessary professional development.
The post holder will be accountable for their clinical responsibilities and comply with the Department of Health, UK Managed Voluntary Register for Fitness to Practice and Code of Conduct standard and all trust policies. They will adhere to the principles of confidentiality and the Data Protection Act at all times.
