Job summary

The posts primary importance is in the delivery of the NHS England educational contract with Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT). The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the educational contract for Medical Education between the Trust and NHS England and Medical Schools are fulfilled and that educational targets within the contract are met for junior doctors and students.

Main duties of the job

To support the Director of Medical Education, Director of Undergraduate Medical Education, Deputy Directors of Medical Education , Medical Education Manager, and UG Locality Tutors in developing, managing and delivering a range of high quality and cost-effective educational services within the Trust to specifications required by the General Medical Council (GMC), NHS England, Medical Schools and the Trust's strategic and operational framework.

Medical Education also provides vibrant academic CPD programmes for medical students, junior doctors and senior doctors which include SAS doctors and Consultants.

Medical Education is funded via the NHS England Kent Surrey and Sussex (Learning Development Agreement (LDA) and we are regulated by external bodies including the General Medical Council, specialty schools and the Royal Colleges.

Job description

Job responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

The role encompasses the day to day line management of all Undergraduate administrators working within the Medical Education team to ensure the delivery of an effective service for the medical student administration across the designated years of 3 x medical school programmes that we support from different medical schools from induction to end of placement. This includes maintaining student records and ensuring systems, processes and data management are effective, accurate and auditable.

The post holder will be required to liaise and communicate effectively with internal and external partners to promote the resources of the Undergraduate Medical Education Department and make students and faculty the focus of your role. Communication and organisational skills are vital as is the ability to build relationships and support others.

The post holder will work under the Leadership of the Medical Education Manager but will also work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Education (DUME) and Undergraduate Tutors. This job demands strategic planning and organisational skills to manage the delivery of a curriculum in a clinical placement as set out in the NHS England Learning Development Agreement (LDA) Contract.

The post holder will work closely with the Medical Education Manager and act as a deputy working alongside the other Band 6 Manager when required.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Work with the Director of Medical Education, Director of Undergraduate Education, Deputy Directors of Medical Education , Medical Education Manager to evaluate and develop medical education. Ensuring this is done within the framework of the Educational Contract.
  • Under the guidance of the Medical Education Manager, ensure the day to day activity of the Undergraduate Medical Education department runs smoothly which includes line management, supervision and appraisal responsibility for all Undergraduate administrators within the team.

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience/professional qualification plus further knowledge acquisition through formal training and accreditation (i.e. Postgraduate Certificate in Managing Healthcare Education)
  • Clear evidence of ongoing CPD and additional theoretical and conceptual knowledge acquisition.

Experience

Essential

  • 2 years' experience working as a manager - ideally in an education role.
  • Experience in taking complex, sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience of customer service in a client facing role.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an Education and Training environment
  • Experience of change management
