JOB PURPOSE:
Assist and support the Director of Medical Education (DME), Deputy Directors of Medical Education (DDME), Medical Education Manager (MEM), Director of Undergraduate Medical Education (DUME), Locality Tutors, Medical Education Leads, and Deputy Medical Education Manager to run the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust Rotational Training Scheme regarding training and educational supervision for all trainee doctors and medical students in Psychiatry.
The post holder will be required to liaise with a wide range of contacts, including both senior and junior medical staff, psychotherapists, managers and other staff of all disciplines in the Trust.
There may also be a requirement to liaise with other NHS Trusts, Royal Colleges and external bodies such as Kent and Medway Medical School and Kings Collage London on behalf of the Medical Education Manager.

RESPONSIBILITY:
- To support the Consultant Medical Psychotherapist & Psychotherapy Leads (alongside the MEM and Dep MEM) to ensure Core psychiatric trainee doctors have access to supervised psychotherapy cases within the Trust, as part of their curriculum requirements. Current curricular requirements are one short case (minimum of 12 sessions) and one long case (between 20 and 40 sessions) in two different psychotherapeutic modalities.
- To support the Consultant Medical Psychotherapist & Psychotherapy Leads (alongside the MEM and Dep MEM) in ensuring that Higher psychiatric trainee doctors have access to a variety of different psychotherapy experiences which are relevant to the trainees future practice as a consultant. This may include supervised individual psychotherapy cases alongside group therapies and facilitating a Balint group. The Royal College of Psychiatry Specialty Advisory Committee recommends a minimum of 8 contacts to constitute a meaningful annual training experience.
- To support the Consultant Medical Psychotherapist & Psychotherapy Leads in ensuring that SAS doctors who are on the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR Programme) and who require psychotherapy case as part of this programme, have access to supervised psychotherapy cases
- To support the Medical Education team to organise weekly Balint groups for trainee doctors. Monitor trainee doctors attendance and provide certificates of attendance on request, towards their appraisal.
- To support the Medical Education team to run annual Balint group facilitator training events for prospective new balint group leads.
- To facilitate Core and Higher psychiatric trainee doctors in completing Psychotherapy work place-based assessment (WPBA) in a timely manner, through monitoring deadlines and offering support.
- To support with placement related queries from the medical education team, teaching faculty, clinical supervisors, trainee doctors and medical students. To liaise with postgraduate and undergraduate locality tutors/leads to achieve this.
- To assist the Medical Education team where appropriate, with the organisation and delivery of trainee doctors and medical student rotations & inductions. This may include ensuring that induction packs are up to date on iLearn.
- To support the Medical Education team where appropriate, with organising and administering teaching events for trainee doctors and medical students.
- To support the Medical Education team with site visits, from internal and external stake holders, relating to verification and accreditation.
- To assist the MEM in the organisation of conferences/training days for medical staff from within and outside the Trust.
- To supports the MEM in coordinating educational events including:
- Booking venues
- Booking catering
- Co-ordinating and booking
- Taking and recording bookings for course/events
- Maintaining an attendance list
- Sending out reminders and keeping a waiting list, where appropriate
- Processing of payments from external applicants
- Collation and analysis of programme feedback
- Issuing certificates
- To undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the MEM, Director of Medical Education, Deputy Directors of Medical Education, Locality Tutors, Undergraduate leads and Training Programme Directors
- To communicate with trainees and educators as well as other stakeholders both internally and in external organisations.
- To prepares correspondence, spreadsheets, presentations, and course advertising materials.
- To works with the DME, MEM, to evaluate and develop medical education. Ensuring this is done within the framework of the Educational Contract.
- To be responsible for the comprehensive, day to day administrative support of Medical Education across KMPT.
- To be responsible for analysing and evaluating activity and performance in order to continually improve the quality of Medical Education in all service areas.
ENVIRONMENT:
- Provides pastoral care to medical students and trainee doctors who need additional support.
- May be required to support the team with setting up room layouts which include moving tables and chairs, carrying heavy IT equipment such as screens, projectors and laptops to and from locations.
- Driving licence essential: The post holder is required to be flexible and may be asked to travel where necessary across KMPT sites.
JOB SUMMARY:
The posts primary importance is in the delivery of the HEE educational contract. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the educational contract for Medical Education between the Trust and Health Education England, Universities and Medical Schools are fulfilled and that educational targets within the contract are met.
The post holder will support in ensuring that the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendations and curriculum requirements for Psychotherapy are fulfilled with regards to the training of psychiatrists (ST1-6).
The post holder must be aware of Trust visions, financial commitments and the government directives affecting the educational plan and requirements.
Ensuring that the Medical Director, Deputy Chief Medical officer (workforce), Director of Medical Education, Deputy Directors of Medical Education, Undergraduate Tutor & Trust vision for Medical Education is implemented timely and efficiently, with reflective practice for lessons learned improved to achieve and sustain a high-quality service.
Key results are monitored by the results national GMC Surveys, feedback and visits. The Medical Education Department are responsible for responding to feedback to aid and continually improve on training programmes at KMPT.
