Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker to provide operational leadership to the development and ongoing delivery of a new service - the SUN (Service User Network) Service.
The post-holder will recruit, organise, coordinate, deliver monitor and manage the new SUN project across Kent in collaboration with the clinical lead. The SUN service is based on therapeutic community principles and the post holder will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and experience of group facilitation. We pride ourselves on being a co-produced pathway and groups within SUN will be co-delivered by a clinician facilitator and a facilitator with lived experience. You will demonstrate an understanding of working in a co-produced way and working with partnership organizations to support the professional development of facilitators with lived experience.
You will work both remotely and face to face dependent on the needs of the service. You will be managed and supervised by the consultant clinical psychologist/psychotherapist for the SUN project. You will take responsibility for the professional staff group to maintain the required level of safe service delivery and standards, including supervision and appraisal.
Main duties of the job
o Initial setting up with subsequent ongoing team management and leadership of the (SUN) Service User Network project across Kent, in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and voluntary sector partners.o Work in partnership with the MDT, CRHT and Acute Inpatients Services, other community teams and Primary Care to provide support and treatment to service users within SUN project to facilitate the safe management of their needs within a community setting.o Manage referrals, Facilitating easy open access to SUN groups.o Co-facilitate SUN groups with colleagues from KMPT and third sector VCSE including those with lived experience.o Publicise SUN to mental health community and inpatient teams and liaise with partner organisations.o To undertake service evaluation, audit and research

To ensure the effective ongoing delivery of the SUN service with a trauma focussed relationally informed framework for the service. Facilitate easy access to the service for clients with Complex Emotional Difficulties (CED) To offer skilled co-facilitation of groups using the SUN model, supporting members to take an active part in improving their own and each others coping skills and in taking appropriate responsibility for their own mental well-being To take an active role in the development of a safe and supportive group culture underpinned by the principles of therapeutic community environments, modelling the ethos of co-production, valuing and respecting each member of the group. where difficulties can be understood and accepted, and effective boundaries negotiated and managed in the group. Supporting a culture of welcoming and supporting new members into the groups, In collaboration with group members promote peer support and reduce isolation. To ensure that any potential risk is being constantly assessed within a culture of positive risk taking. To facilitate co-produced risk assessment and support plans (RASP) with service users within the group setting. To assess and monitor clinical risk to escalate when necessary following trust policy and procedures. To actively encourage involvement from family and carers, providing culturally appropriate information as required. To facilitate access to others service and sources of appropriate support as alternatives to reduce unnecessary crisis presentations and admissions. To facilitate access to Mental Health together plus where necessary for clients with higher level of psychological need. Ensure that a Duty of Candour is maintained with services users/carers at all time. Ensure services are able to be delivered safely and in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act, including monitoring the quality and safety at each site of responsibility, identifying breaches, escalating them and acting on them as soon as possible. Be responsible for ensuring a regular process of review is in place to detect incidents that indicate adverse quality of care, and triangulate.
B. Team or service clinical functioning
In collaboration with the Clinical Lead take a leadership and managerial role in the setting up and then ongoing delivery of the SUN project across Kent Ensure provision for three groups per week for adults over 18yrs in each Place with a mix of online, in-person and out of hours meeting times. In addition three groups per week county wide for young people delivered on line. . To develop and maintain competent team management and leadership in the ongoing delivery of all aspects of the Sun Project Assume line management responsibilities for a team of clinician facilitators and provide clinical supervision for all facilitators, those with lived experience and clinical staff. You will have responsibility for managing (and maintaining the relationship with our partner providers Lived Well Kent?). Development of the SUN team through provision of Knowledge Understanding Framework (KUF) training and Core Competency of Personality Disorder adherence To contribute to services delivery of accessible services to diverse local communities. To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services. To liaise with referrers, GPs and other professionals where indicated.
Policy and service development
To implement policies and procedures in own area of work, and to propose improvements. To contribute to the ongoing consultation and engagement of service users in planning and delivering services. To contribute to service development through undertaking appropriate projects.
Management and supervision
Ensure the necessary systems and protocols for the delivery of a safe and supportive service are in place, understood and adhered to throughout the service. Work with the Senior Clinical and managerial Leads to agree clear and deliverable objectives and to ensure they are implemented & monitored. Provide line management, including management of performance, for staff Band 6 Mental Health Practitioners and Band 4 LE. To organize and ensure the delivery of the programme of groups across Kent Be responsible for team performance including the setting and monitoring of the delivery of targets and reporting thereon as appropriate, meeting internal and external information requirements and data quality. Ensure arrangements are in place for all service members to receive regular supervision, appraisal and have their personal development plans and training needs identified and where possible met. Ensure that all staff fulfil the requirements of statutory & mandatory training. To provide day to day support to the SUN facilitators with lived experience. To manage referrals direct from people who wish to access SUN. To promote early access to the service and ensure robust relationships and links with other community-based services (for example, GP Integrated Mental Health Service, Primary Care services and CMHRS). To work with adults (18+) some of whom may have a diagnosis of personality disorder and others with traits of this disorder.
Teaching and Training
Delivery of the SUN project to trainer level within 6 months of entering the post which involves training and supervising other colleagues who are developing their Core competencies. To provide occasional specialist training in SUN to new team members as the service evolves. To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and reports at local and National level Promotion of positive attitudes towards people with mental ill health, mutual understanding and effective collaborative working between mental health services, primary care trusts and community and voluntary sector. Provision of a suitable learning environment for nursing and other students on placement and undertake the roles of supervisor or mentor for students on designated undergraduate, postgraduate courses and post experience courses where appropriate.
