Job summary

We are seeking a professionally registered psychodynamic therapist or psychologist to join our team at the Ash Eton Therapeutic Community (TC). The TC offers intensive MBT informed group therapy within a framework of the democratic therapeutic community treatment model. You will enjoy therapeutic group work and have experience of working with adults with histories of complex trauma. You will work alongside drama therapists, art therapists, occupational therapist, psychologists and psychotherapists, many of whom are currently being supported by the service to undertake clinical MBT training with the Anna Freud Centre.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years' experience post qualification, in a relevant clinical area and will be looking for an opportunity to develop their clinical skills further by joining a specialist therapy service. We are also interested to hear from less experienced clinicians who demonstrate enthusiasm and a readiness to embrace this treatment model.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintenance of a safe and containing therapeutic environment
  • Delivering large and small group, MBT informed psychotherapy groups
  • Engaging in the routine holding structures of the TC such as community meetings
  • Clinical assessment and formulation of complex service users with a history of trauma
  • Clinical risk assessment and management
  • Collaborative, patient centred care planning
  • Safeguarding service users and vulnerable adults and children within their network.
  • Therapeutic engagement with service users in informal spaces throughout the day in the TC, such as lunchtime, breaks and social spaces
  • Clinical care management
  • Maintenance of good quality, contemporaneous clinical records
  • Effective discharge planning

About us

The TC is established members of the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Quality Network 'Community of Communities' and the Consortium of Therapeutic Communities, and signs up to their principles, values and standards. Co-production, reflective practice, use of self, ability to contain anxiety are some of the key principles that underpin our work. This includes taking care of our staff team with weekly clinical supervision, regular management supervision, a weekly externally facilitated staff process group and team development days at least twice a year.

Ash Eton Therapeutic Community is in the Kent coastal town of Folkestone. There is easy access from the M20 and direct rail links to London, as well as ferries and the Eurotunnel making the continent feel just as close. There are excellent schools in the area, with Kent retaining its grammar school system and the Trust offers generous relocation packages to eligible candidates.

CLINICAL

To provide specialist psychological/psychotherapy assessment of adults with complex and long standing mental health difficulties and integrating it into a psychological formulation of the client and the psychosocial environment, drawing on a range of psychological theoretical perspectives.

To formulate and implement plans for specialist treatment or management of clients mental health problems based on a multi-factorial psychological understanding and current evidence-based best practice with a particular reference to an understanding of Therapeutic Communities.

To undertake a range of specialist psychotherapeutic interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities and ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the intervention.

To undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management and provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi-disciplinary team.

When appropriate to consult with and provide specialist psychological guidance to carers and families of service users.

To exercise autonomous professional judgement and responsibility for the psychological management of clients on own caseload.

To interact with service users who may present with challenging behaviour or in states of high arousal on a daily basis. To engage in both structured activities and non-structured time with service users in the context of the therapeutic community model.

Act in accordance with Trust policy and procedures in response to any child or adult safeguarding concerns.

To teach psychotherapy/psychology to other professions and trainees of other professions in the collaboration with other professional tutors and teachers.

To participate in the specialist training of other trainee practitioners
