Job summary

We have an exciting permanent vacancy for a part-time Therapy Assistant in the Wakefield Adult Community Learning Disability Health Team, working 22.5 hrs per week.

We are a well-established and supportive team with Therapists, Admin, Nurses, Psychologists and Psychiatrists and deliver therapeutic assessment and treatment to adults who have a diagnosed learning disability (LD) across Wakefield. We do most of our work in peoples homes, day centres, colleges and community venues.

We are looking for an applicant who has a passion for working with adults with LD and is committed to helping them to fulfil their potential within the community. The successful candidate will be expected to assist all the therapy clinicians over their working week (core team hours 09:00-17:00 - Monday to Friday).

Our team offers a robust induction, regular supervision, appraisal and in-house training to enable the successful candidate to fulfil the requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job

You will be a highly motivated and conscientious individual, who has the desire to work creatively with people with learning disabilities.

Applicants should have strong communication and IT skills; and excellent time management skills to be able to work independently within the boundaries of the role and seek help when required, as well as alongside clinicians in the wider team.

Applicants should have good observational skills and be able to follow therapy programmes.

They should have excellent and physically able to fulfil the demands of the role which will include participation in hydrotherapy, trampoline therapy and moving and handling tasks.

The role will predominantly be client-facing but will also include administrative tasks such as note-writing and creating therapy resources.

Due to the nature of the role a car driver is essential.
