An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist to take up a role within the Intensive Home-Based Treatment Team (IHBTT). The IHBTT team is a dynamic team working with adults with complex and often trauma related psychological needs presenting in crisis.

We are seeking a confident and enthusiastic clinician with specialist experience in adult mental health who is passionate about improving the delivery of psychological, recovery focussed and trauma informed care in the context of capacity and demand challenges.

The applicant should hold a first professional qualification in Clinical Psychology to Doctorate or equivalent. Accreditation with the HCPC is required for this post.

Professional and Clinical Leadership will be provided by a Consultant Psychologist based within the locality and there will be opportunities to gain support and to work closely with other psychological therapists within the bases for support and CPD. Further training may supported and funded within this trust.

We have strong links with the Clinical Psychology Doctorate course in Clinical Psychology and there are opportunities to offer placements for third year trainee clinical psychologists or for Service Evaluation Projects to be adopted. The Trust also has strong research and clinical outcome links via an Associate Director of Clinical Psychology, based within Huddersfield University. Audit and evaluation is encouraged and supported across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The successful postholder will be offering specialist psychological assessments, formulations and consultations to the team. They will work collaboratively and effectively within this highly motivated, multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals. Integral to this post is the ability to liaise with colleagues in other parts of the trust in order to ensure that the individuals the team work with, receive a seamless transfer to clinicians who will offer longer term psychological intervention, thus improving the service user journey. The trust is committed to the development of a trauma informed pathway and becoming accredited as a trauma informed trust.

The role will be varied, and involve providing supervision, consultation and teaching and support to colleagues within the team and working directly with service users and their families. The successful candidate will work closely with the team manager to maximise the availability of psychological assessment, interventions, and formulation and to ensure effective governance of psychological work.

The post holder will work in collaboration with professionals, carers and service users offering advice, consultation and supervision as appropriate.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

Clinical

  1. The post holder will develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients, including in group settings. This will include joint working with complex cases which require more specialised levels of assessment and therapeutic skills.
  2. The post holder is expected to provide autonomous, highly specialist assessments of clients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of psychological of psychological data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi structured interviews with clients, and, where appropriate, family members and others involved in the clients care.
  3. The post holder will be expected to communicate with clients with a wide range of difficulties and other presentations, including clients with complex mental health difficulties and plan and organise broad range of complex activities.
  4. The post holder will be expected to formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and /or management of a clients mental health problems including associated challenging behaviours, based on appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problem and employing methods of proven efficiency across the full range of care settings.
  5. The post holder will be expected to make decisions and clinical judgements involving a range of highly complex factors in the context of inadequate or unavailable information, equivocal research/ evidence or where expert opinion differs.
  6. The post holder will be expected to exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based care plans.
  7. The post holder is expected to act as care co-ordinator where appropriate, ensuring the provision of a care package for the clients needs, co coordinating the work of others involved with care, arranging the clients reviews as required and communicating effectively with the client, the family and all others involved in the care and to monitor progress during the course of multidisciplinary interventions.
