An exciting opportunity has
become available for a mental health nurse to join the West Yorkshire Liaison
and Diversion (L&D) service. The aim of L&D is to divert vulnerable
people out of the criminal justice system and into services to support them
long term. With staff at each part of the criminal justice system, we ensure
that information about vulnerable people is shared in a timely manner to
support decision making and appropriate outcomes.
Working as part of a
multi-disciplinary team in the community, the post holder will triage, asses,
and liaise in relation to people in police custody, making appropriate
referrals into services. As part of a wider team of nurses across WY, working
in partnership with probation to provide reports to the judiciary to support
sentencing decisions, is a pivotal part of this role. Partnership working at
the heart of our service and co-production a golden thread through all our
work. Including collaboration with MH trusts across WY and secure estate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake
screening assessments using comprehensive assessment skills, excellent
communication, trauma informed approach. Manage workload, effectively
prioritising as an autonomous practitioner. Write mental health reports to
provide to court to help inform sentencing. Complete comprehensive referrals
into appropriate short-term and long-term services. Provide client with support
and handholding to appointments to encourage engagement. Promote the welfare
and social inclusion of vulnerable adults and valuing principles such as
equality and diversity. Share timely
information about vulnerable people with health, justice and other agencies to
assist decision making about potential criminal justice and health outcomes and
ensure risk is managed effectively and clients are safeguarded. Provide
supervision to junior members of the team whilst encouraging Continuing
Professional Development for post holder and other members of the team.
