A great opportunity has arisen to
work as a mental health Physiotherapist within the Acute Inpatients Therapy
Team delivering person centred and holistic therapeutic care across our acute
mental and low secure mental health wards.
Our team is AHP led, consists of a
senior physiotherapist and assistant, OTs and activity facilitators and is based
within an allied health professionals hub. Our physiotherapy offer provides
excellent experience of work across the Unity centre and Bretton centre
providing high quality care physio therapy and therapeutic application of
physical activity input to promote recovery.
We are client centred, recovery
focused and work towards service users achieving wellbeing and safe, timely
discharge from hospital.
The role offers access to a strong
network of allied health professionals across the Trust with clear professional
leadership and regular supervision within the profession. We have an excellent
support and wellbeing offer for our staff. We are able to support the completion
of preceptorship and encourage development your own CPD. We encourage
reflective practice and accessing internal/external training.

Main duties of the job
You will maintain a high
standard of clinical work when carrying out physiotherapeutic interventions.
You will be responsible for
the assessment of patients, formulation of treatment plans and delivery of physiotherapy
interventions when these are indicated.
Maintain a high standard of
clinical documentation.
Be an active and supportive
member of the MDT championing service user safety and dignity and ensure
compliance with our clinical governance framework.
As part of person-centred
holistic care, you will assess for and provide health and well-being activities
such as the gym, hydrotherapy, exercise groups/ walks.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be a core member of the physiotherapy service providing specialist therapeutic interventions to adults and older people with mental health problems.
- To assist in the clinical activities of the therapy team and wider mental health services and provide supervision to support staff.
- To contribute to service development and in the wider debate of physiotherapy issues, strategic planning and professional development.
- To utilise specialist physiotherapy knowledge and skills to assess, formulate goals, implement treatment and evaluate outcomes involving the service user and family/carer.
- To independently manage a defined caseload of people with a wide range of specific difficulties enabling the person to fulfil their functional potential with supervision from a senior member of staff when necessary.
- To work as an autonomous practitioner within a wider multi-agency community.

Clinical:
- To ensure therapeutic interventions are of a high professional standard, informed by evidence based practice and involves the service user and carer in all aspects of the care programme.
- To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the effect of disability providing training and advice on lifestyle changes/adaptations to the clients social and physical environments.
- To undertake specific standardised and non standardised assessments to formulate the overall treatment plan in conjunction with the service user.
- To interpret the assessment results in order to plan and implement a client centred treatment programme on an individual and/or group basis using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
- To contribute to a co-ordinated team approach throughout the assessment and in meeting the service users needs including developing and maintaining close working relationships with all relevant services and agencies.
- To participate in the evaluation of the effectiveness of clinical interventions.
- To continue clinical interventions where necessary to assist in the transition of skills from an inpatient setting to living independently within the community.
- To work effectively within the multi-agency team ensuring that both written and verbal communication is clearly maintained to ensure a seamless service.
- To be responsible for the maintenance of appropriate clinical records concerned with service user treatment, in accordance with risk management documentation guidelines.
- To attend appropriate clinical team meetings, referral meetings, case conferences, care programme approach meetings and any other as required by clinical need and as directed by the Line/Service Manager.
