Portering & Transport Supervisor

Job summary

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work 5 over 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays.

We're seeking a proactive Portering & Transport Supervisor to lead our team in delivering a high quality, efficient and customer focused service across the Trust. Based at Fieldhead Hospital, with work across other sites as required, you'll coordinate daily operations, manage changing priorities and ensure services run safely and smoothly.

In this multi-disciplined role, you'll oversee essential functions including goods movement, deliveries, collections and wider facilities support. You'll lead by example, develop staff and maintain a safe, timely and professional service.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be responsible for the development and provision of an effective, efficient, and well-coordinated Porter/Transport support service to the Trust and also to other NHS service users through Service Level Agreement and formal contracts. The job role will include:

Developing and maintaining an efficient, professional portering and transport service

Line managing Drivers and Porters, including staff support, development, 121s and appraisals

Managing staff rotas to ensure full service coverage and liaising with stakeholders Trustwide

Identifying and implementing service improvements

Managing a small fleet of vehicles, ensuring legal and safety compliance and overseeing maintenance

Ensuring all staff training is current and recorded

Provide Senior Managers with submissions for service developments and assist with long and short term business plans.

To act as primary point of contact for Porter/Transport Services and liaise with Service users within the Trust and other local NHS organisations through Service Level Agreements on delivery of service provision.

Actively develop and maintain effective communication links with other Heads of Department.

To encourage and develop a culture of excellent customer service and promote a professional and caring image, recognising the contribution of such services to the overall client experience.

To develop and maintain all risk assessments associated with the service are carried out and outcomes are communicated to relevant staff.

Manage the financial budget of the Services in compliance with Trust financial procedure controls, raising requisitions and authorise payments for services provided.

Responsible for relevant Health and Safety matters associated with the Transport/Porter services ensuring effective provision of staff awareness and training.

Prepare and manage local Health and Safety Plans in line with Trust Health and Safety Policies, Legislation and Statutes.

To be responsible for the management and control the waste compound ensuring all types of waste is removed and recorded in compliance with legislation (Hazardous Waste Regulations).

To develop and implement effective waste segregation and minimisation arrangements throughout the trust maintaining detailed information and reporting on Waste Management Performance.

Contribute to Business Continuity Plans.

Assist in the development of Green Travel Plan.

Responsible for management of Taxi Contract.

Responsible for providing a transport service in accordance with Trust Transport Policy, Transportation of Dangerous Goods.

Ensure all documentation relating to Carriage of Dangerous Goods is monitored.
