Job summary

We have a new and exciting post as Senior Learning and Development Facilitator in the Directorate of nursing, quality and professions. The post-holder will lead on a range of work-streams which support the development of our registered workforce in the Trust. Experience of leadership and a commitment to developing the skills required to successfully influence and achieve on an organisational level is essential.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a proactive approach to their own development and a passion for helping others develop. They should inspire people to want to expand their professional and educational horizons and be able to provide leadership, advice, guidance, support and direction.

Applicants must have experience of leadership, education and training either within a clinical role or in an educational role with a clinical or academic setting.

The potholder will report to the lead for non-medical education and training and work alongside the Practice Placement Quality Team, the wider directorate and Trust to help shape and develop systems to support the growth of our registered healthcare professional workforce.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will lead on discrete parts of the non-medical education and training and development work for registered clinical staff such as the ACP strategy, Trustwide Preceptorship development, international recruitment and the expansion and embedding of the Professional Nurse Advisor workforce and role within the Trust.

Good organisational skills, effective engagement and influencing skills and the ability to identify priorities and work effectively whilst under pressure are required for this role, as are excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

The ability to forge positive relationships and work collaboratively with internal as well as external colleagues and stakeholders is crucial to the success of this role as are emotional intelligence and diplomacy.

A drive for continuous improvement is essential as is the ability to horizon scan and understand the requirements of a range of professional and regulatory body requirements in relation to healthcare now and in the future.

JOB SUMMARY

To lead and provide highly specialist advice and consultancy on the needs analysis, design, delivery and evaluation of learning and development programmes which meet agreed service priorities and regulatory requirements of registered staff employed across South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SWYPFT).

To be professionally accountable for discrete parts of the learning and development service through managing performance and supporting the Lead for Non-medical Education and Training. Contribute to the creation of the annual business planning process, organisational learning needs analysis, and the delivery of wider learning and development activity, which meets the relevant service needs of services and teams.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

The postholder will:

1.1 Care/service/function provision:

Design and deliver learning and development solutions that are aligned with the needs of the Trust, service lines/care groups, services, and Human Resources and Workforce Development strategies

Lead on discrete parts of the non-medical education and training and development work for registered clinical staff such as the ACP strategy, Trustwide Preceptorship development, international recruitment and the expansion and embedding of the Professional Nurse Advisor workforce and role within the Trust.

Support the development and implementation of service strategies which have education, training, learning and development implications e.g. Transformation and service improvement projects, new ways of working, workforce planning and skills mix reviews, competence development

Design, deliver and evaluate values-based learning and development programmes that transfer into workplace practice and increase team and individual performance, for example around developing staff who supervise and assess ACPs, preceptees and staff recruited from outside the UK

Lead on aspects of learning and development project work and contribute to wider Trust-wide projects as necessary

Evaluates learning solutions to measure the impact on the Trusts objectives and key performance indicators

Develop and contribute to education, training, learning and development quality assurance across the Trust and ensure best practice with others outside the team

Report on key performance indicators including learning outcomes to the Lead for Non-medical Education and Training as and when required

Support the Trusts transformation and service improvement agenda through the provision of corporate and bespoke learning and development activity for registered staff

Review, develop and write policies in relation to the NMET function; make proposals on wider policy or service change which impact on other departments

Provide advice and guidance on external bids, and the writing of funding applications and service level agreements.

1.2 Working as part of a Team:

Work collaboratively as part of an integrated NMET, Human Resources and wider Directorate of nursing, quality and professions team ensuring learning and development activity is aligned with Organisational Learning Needs Analysis (LNA) and service delivery plans and is compliant with regulatory and professional body requirements

Conduct learning needs analyses in partnership with service leaders, managers, and subject matter experts; as well as with external partners such as Higher Education Institutes

Provide information, advice, guidance and advocacy via tailored in-house consultancy including expert post-registration development, transformation and project support

Act as a broker of internal and external education, training and learning & development opportunities in support of corporate and operational services workforce development needs

Manage effective relationships with partner organisations such as universities, and other suppliers of learning and development as well as NHS England and relevant professional bodies.

1.3 Managing Self:

Maintain and update skills, knowledge and learning & development best practice through continued professional development;

Manage highly complex or sensitive information that might affect staff and recommend workforce learning and development solutions in line with Human Resource policy and continuing professional development strategies.

Represent the NMET and wider directorate of NQP at key service meetings to determine the implications arising for possible learning and development activity;

Represent the Trust at external events and forums as necessary including attendance at NHS England education commissioning meetings and programme development meetings (including local and regional ACP groups)

Work with health and social care partners to promote and participate in the delivery of multi-agency, multidisciplinary learning;

1.4 Management Supervision and Support:

Provide leadership/supervision to other members of staff working on the NMET agandas.

Contribute to values-based appraisals that maximises employee performance and support personal development through coaching and professional supervision;

Manage the health and wellbeing of direct reports as well as the safety of self and others across the team and during learning and development activity.

Provide regular and timely written and verbal reports to the Lead for Non-medical Education and Training and other colleagues in the Directorate of NQP and service managers in relation to the progress towards meeting learning and development plans.

1.5 Financial Responsibility:

Contribute to the design and development of high quality learning and development solutions at the most effective cost, which meets stakeholder needs;

Make recommendations and deliver training solutions within delegated budget authority levels;

Commission internal and external training suppliers ensuring value for money, quality assurance, and that learning and development activity is aligned with service needs;

Make decisions that maximises the use of the funds attached to the various workstreams

Use Trust resources efficiently and suggest alternative solutions where learning and development cost savings can be made.
